Eli Dershwitz, Ziad Elsissy Finish in Top-32 at World Fencing Championships

Cairo, Egypt (July 18, 2022) — Tim Morehouse Fencing Club’s Eli Dershwitz and Ziad Elsissy finished in the top-32 at the World Fencing Championships.

Dershwitz entered the competition ranked in the top-16 in the world (he was 10th), so he advanced directly to the top-64. In action on Monday, he handily took his first direct elimination 15-6. However, his second DE bout proved more challenging. He fell 12-15 to Italy’s Michele Gallo. He ultimately finished in the 19th spot.

Elsissy came into the competition seeded 17th so entered into pools where he went 6 for 6. This allowed him to bye directly into the top-64. In his first direct elimination, he won 15-10. He fell in his second DE in a nail-biter 14-15 to Italy’s Luigi Samele, to take 22nd place.
