ABOUT: Tim Morehouse Fencing Club at 235 East 49th Street (EST. 2024)

In June 2024, Tim Morehouse Fencing Club (TMFC) proudly moved into the historic location at 235 East 49th Street. This facility, previously a staple for children on the East Side, was home to the Children Athletic Training School (CATS) for over 40 years. Before CATS, the space was one of the first personal training gyms in the 1970s and 80s, known as the Sports Training Institute, frequented by Mayor Koch and numerous celebrities.

After sitting empty from 2020 to 2024, TMFC revitalized the space, aiming to restore its status as a neighborhood staple. The club aspires to create a welcoming environment for students from all over the area to come after school and learn fencing from TMFC's Olympians and elite coaches. Continuing TMFC's tradition of excellence, the club aims to produce nationally and internationally ranked competitive fencers. TMFC hopes to transform this historic location into another center of athletic excellence for fencing, contributing to the community's vibrant history and future.
