TMFC Fencer Catherine Flanagan Wins a Top-8 Medal at the San Jose Junior World Cup

San Jose, CA (January, 2019) - Eight students from Tim Morehouse Fencing Club participated in the San Jose Junior World Cup, a foil tournament featuring Junior events. TMFC fencers won a Top-8 Medal and achieved two Top-16 finishes in this competition.

Our three Junior Women’s Foil Fencers achieved great results. Catherine Flanagan won a Top-8 Medal, coming in 8th place out of 52 fencers. Sasha Abayeva came in 31st place, and Christina Ferrari came in 44th place.

TMFC’s Junior Men’s Foil fencers also achieved impressive results in their event, with all five of them placing in the Top-32. Nestor Levin came in 9th place out of 60 fencers, Yiming Han came in 16th place, Zachary Binder came in 20th place, Lucas Lutar came in 21st place, and Finn Hossfeld came in 22nd place.

Manalapan, NJ (January, 2019) - Students from Tim Morehouse Fencing Club competed at Gold Finch, a two-day tournament featuring ROC (D1, D2 and Vet) and Non-Regional Junior and Cadet events. TMFC fencers brought home a Silver Medal, two Bronze Medals, and four Top-8 Medals.

Our Foil fencers led the club at this tournament, achieving Silver and Bronze Medal wins. In Cadet Men’s Foil, Gerald Wang won a Silver Medal and earned his D20. Henry Zhang won a Bronze Medal in Div1A Men’s Foil and renewed his A20. Additionally, Nathan Andrews won a Top-8 Medal in Div1A Men’s Foil.

This was also a significant competition for our Epee fencers. Anya Zakharov brought home two medals at this tournament. Anya won a Top-8 Medal in Cadet Women’s Epee, and a Bronze Medal in Junior Women’s Epee. Grace Hicks also won a Top-8 Medal in Junior Women’s Epee.

Lastly, Peter Hammer won a Top-8 Medal in Div1A Men’s Saber, coming in 5th place out of 47 fencers.

Boston, MA (January, 2020) - Tim Morehouse fencer Nicka Lortkipanidze headed to the Boston World Cup to compete in Junior Men’s Saber. Nicka achieved an impressive Top-8 result, coming in 6th place out of 91 international fencers.

National Harbor, MD (January, 2020) - Tim Morehouse fencers competed at Capitol Clash, a three day tournament featuring SYC, RCC, Veteran ROC, & Y8 events. They were joined by our coaches Diana, Fati, Tim Achiko, and Chris. Our fencers achieved awesome results, bringing home two Gold Medals, one Bronze, one Silver, and eight Top-8 Medals.

Our club yielded its biggest squad in Y-12 Men’s Saber, with seventeen of our fencers competing. TMFC fencers brought home three medals in this event. Triton Oh won a Gold Medal, Gabriel McCarthy won a Bronze Medal, and Shaun Kim won a Top-8 Medal in this category.

Tim Morehouse fencers also achieved notable results in Y-8 Men’s Saber and Y-8 Women’s Saber. Julia Harris won a Gold Medal in Y-8 Women’s Saber. Additionally, our fencers won three medals in Y-8 Men’s Saber. Miles Chambers, Zihou Dai, and Timothy Chang each won a Top-8 Medal in this category.

This was also a significant competition for TMFC’s foil fencers. Richard Li won a Silver Medal in Y-12 Men’s Foil, and Sophia Wong won a Top-8 Medal in Y-14 Women’s Foil.

Our Cadet Saber fencers brought home three Top-8 Medals as well. In Cadet Men’s Saber, William Morrill won a Top-8 Medal, coming in 6th place out of 151 fencers. In Cadet Women’s Saber, Sophie Cannon and Chelsea Delsoin each won a Top-8 Medal. Sophie came in 6th place, and Chelsea came in 8th place out of 85 fencers.

TMFC Fencers Fiona Neibart and Madison Duckett compete in the Paris Cadet International

Paris, France (January, 2020) - TMFC Fencers Fiona Neibart and Madison Duckett participated in their first Cadet International tournament. They fenced in Cadet Women’s Saber, where they were supported by Coach Michael Kim throughout the event.

Madison came in 36th place out of 127 Fencers. She went 5-1 in her pools and got a bye before losing in the top-64. Fiona came in 105th place in Cadet Women’s Saber.

Our fencers gained a lot of valuable experience at this tournament, and a huge victory just to be starting down this path!

TMFC Fencer Ziad Elsissy achieves a Top-32 Result at the Montreal World Cup

Montreal, QC (January, 2020) - Three fencers from Tim Morehouse Fencing Club competed in the International Fencing Federation’s Montreal World Cup. The event took place at the IGA Stadium in Jarry Park from January 10 to 12. This tournament was a major step for Olympic qualification, with about 350 international sabre athletes competing for an opportunity to compete in Tokyo.

TMFC fencer Ziad Elsissy achieved a leading results at this tournament. He reached a Top-32 result in Senior Men’s Saber, where he came in 25th place out of 149 fencers. Ziad is in the qualification process for Tokyo 2020.

Fito Western also competed in this category, finishing in 122nd place in Senior Men’s Saber. Fatima Largaespada competed in Senior Women’s Saber, where she came in 98th place out of 144 fencers.

Tim Morehouse Fencers Bring Home Bronze Medal and more at the Cobra Challenge Div1A/Div2 ROC

Jersey City, NJ (December, 2019) - Eight fencers from Tim Morehouse Fencing Club headed to the Cobra Fencing Club to compete in the Cobra Challenge Div1A/Div2 ROC. The competition took place over three days, and featured events in the Div-1A and Div-2 categories. Our foil fencers led the club in this tournament, bringing home a Bronze Medal and two Top-16 results.

Notably, Haoqing Shi won a Bronze Medal in Div-2 Women’s Foil. She also competed in Div-1A Women’s Foil, where she came in 25th place out of 40 fencers.

Eduard Grigoriev achieved a Top-16 result in Div-1A Men’s Foil, and Emily Gu achieved a Top-16 result in Div-1A Women’s Foil. Emily Gu also competed in Div-2 Women’s Foil, coming in 22nd place out of 42 fencers.

Additional Top-32 results were achieved by Amanda Li in Div-1A Women’s Saber, Alexandra McKee in Div-1A Women’s Foil and Div-2 Women’s Foil, and Alexander Sanfilippo-Scherer in Div-2 Men’s Saber.

Charlotte, NC (January, 2020) - Fencers from Tim Morehouse Fencing Club attended the January NAC, a four-day tournament at the Charlotte Convention Center. Division I athletes competed for a spot on the U.S. Olympic Team. Other events include parafencing, and junior and senior team. Our students achieved great results on the fencing strip, and were accompanied by our coaches Tim, Achiko, Fatima, and Michael.

TMFC Fencers brought home one Bronze Medal, three Top-8 Medals, and a Silver Medal in a team event. In Division 1 Men's Saber, Jonah Shainberg won a Bronze Medal and earned his A20 rating. Guram Lortkipanidze won a Top-8 Medal in this category, and also earned his A20.

In Division 1 Women's Foil Christina Ferrari won a Top-8 Medal and earned her A20 rating. She also placed in the Top-32 in Junior Women’s Foil.

Christina Watrall won a Top-8 Medal in Junior Women’s Epee, earning her A20. In Div-1 Women’s Epee, she came in 18th place out of 199 fencers.

Top-32 results were also achieved by Nickoloz Lortkipanidze and Henry Nadile in Junior Men’s Saber. Additionally, Catherine Flanagan placed in the Top-32 in Div-1 Women’s Foil, and Madison Four-Garcia placed in the Top-32 in Div-1 Women’s Saber and Junior Women’s Saber.

Nestor Levin, Finn Hossfeld, and Yiming Han placed in the Top-32 in Div-1 Men’s Foil. Nestor also achieved a Top-16 result in Junior Men’s Foil, and Finn and Yiming made the Top-32 in this category.

Lastly, Tim Morehouse Fencing Club’s Senior Women’s Foil Team won a Silver Medal in their team event! The team was composed of Sasha Abayeva, Christina Ferrari, Catherine Flanagan, and Katie McGillion-Moore.
