This chart represents the major qualification paths for the 2018-2019 season for the Summer Nationals and July Challenge which is a 10-day event held annually during the last week of June and first week of July. This tournament is the culminating event of the National Season.
One of the most under-rated champion’s values is this one: Champions know the System!
A champion has to know the rules of the sport AND understand the system so they can go to the right tournaments and make smart decisions about where and when to compete. It is impossible to plan effectively for a season without knowing what you need to do to qualify for fencing’s championship events such as the Summer Nationals or, the Junior Olympics.
If you progress in the sport, you’ll also need to know how to qualify for Cadet, Junior and Senior National Teams, World Championships, Pan American Games and of course THE OLYMPICS!
If you’ve already been competing, then you’ll also want to be on top of the points you’ve earned. Generally, all RYC and RJCC events give everyone points and you’ll be ranked in your region even if you finish last. At ROC, SYCs and NACs you’ll need to finish in the top-40% to earn points. (Please see our other articles for an explanation of these acronyms.)
Tim Morehouse Fencing Club is in region 3.
