Colubmus, OH (February, 2020) - Students from Tim Morehouse Fencing Club headed to the Junior Olympic Championships to compete with America’s top junior and cadet athletes. The tournament took place at the Greater Columbus Convention Center, where fencers participated in four days of Junior, Cadet and Junior Team events.

Our fencers had a strong showing, bringing home one Silver Medal, one Bronze Medal, three Top-8 Medals, and Gold Medals in a Junior Team event. They were supported throughout the tournament by our Saber coaches Tim, Kendall, Diana, Achiko and Michael, our Foil coaches Slava and Daniel, and our Epee coach Alex.

In Junior Men's Saber, Nickoloz Lortkipanidze came in 2nd place out of 291 competitors. He won a Silver Medal and earned his A20 fencing in this category. Catherine Flanagan won a Bronze Medal in Junior Women's Foil and earned her A20 as well. She came came in 3rd place out of 228 fencers.

Adele Bois won a Top-8 Medal in Cadet Women's Saber and earned her A20. This made her the second female fencer to win a Junior Olympic medal in TMFC history. She came in 8th place out of 206 fencers.

Nestor Levin also won a Top-8 Medal, coming in 5th place out of 246 Fencers. in Junior Men's Foil. Nestor Earned his A20 fencing in this event. In Cadet Women’s Epee, Christina Watrall won a Top-8 Medal, placing 6th out of 240 fencers.

TMFC’s Junior Men's Foil Team won a Gold Medal in Junior Team Men’s Foil. The team consisted of Finn Hossfeld, Nestor Levin, Richard Lin, and Henry Zhang. They competed against 38 other teams.

Six TMFC Foil fencers won National Points at this tournament. Christina Ferrari, and Sasha Abayeva won National Points in Junior Women’s Foil. Catherine Flanagan won National Points in both Junior and Cadet Women’s Foil. Additionally, Richard Lin won National Points in both Junior and Cadet Men’s Foil. Nestor Levin won National Points in Junior Men’s Foil, and Richard Li won National Points in Cadet Men’s Foil.

Ten of our Saber fencers won National points. William Morrill, Peter Hammer, and Justin Morrill won National Points in Cadet Men’s Saber. Nickoloz Lortkipanidze and Henry Nadile won National Points in Junior Men’s Saber. Chelsea Delsoin and Madison Four-Garcia won National Points in both Junior and Cadet Women’s Saber. Sophie Cannon won National Points in Junior Women’s Saber, and Adele Bois won National Points in Cadet Women’s Saber.

Lastly, four TMFC Epee fencers won National Points. David Pavlenishvili, Connor Kravit, and Nowell Gibson won National Points in Junior Men’s Epee. Christina Watrall won National Points in both Cadet and Junior Women’s Epee.
