New York, NY (February 27, 2023) — These young competitors were doing what they do best — learning to compete.
The fifth installment of the Morehouse Youth Saber Cup, which took place on Sunday at Tim Morehouse Fencing Club in Manhattan, came off with all pushing themselves to new heights.
Y-10 Men’s Saber fencers got a special treat. TMFC Y-10 fencer and current #1 Y-10 fencer in the country, Miles Chambers joined in the fun, showing the younger fencers some of his signature moves. He handily won the event, but the newer fencers definitely benefitted from facing him on the strip.
The competition was fierce in Y-10 Women’s Saber, with many medal winners from past Morehouse Youth Cups vying for the top positions. A new gold medal winner was crowned — Nora Louisa McCarthy — proving that anything can happen any time you step up for competition.
Y-14 Mixed Saber also crowned a new winner: Tim Morehouse’s Jonas Broening-Chai. He came out of pools in the first place and successfully defended himself all through the elimination rounds.
