Tim Morehouse Foil Fencer Sabrina Fang Commits to Princeton University

Port Chester, NY — There’s a tiger in the house.

Tim Morehouse fencer Sabrina Fang has committed to attend and fence for Princeton University.

But like a fencing bout, a strategy was involved in making the offer happen, Fang shared. Prior to the December NAC in 2021, Fang was ranked 52nd on the US Junior Women’s Foil list.

“I felt like I needed to be in the top-16 to be recruited by Princeton, so I started reaching out to other schools,” she said.

And then she had the NAC of her life.

In her first event, Cadet Women’s Foil, she won a silver, but lost the gold to her teammate from Canada. (Fang was born in Canada and competes for Team Canada.)

Two days later, in Junior Women’s Foil, Fang came out of pools in 32nd place. She worked her way through her Direct Elimination bouts and when she faced the first seed (Lauren Scruggs) to make the top-16, she managed to beat her. It was a tumultuous day because her legs were cramping, but she kept winning.

“My friend kept saying, the main character never dies in the novel,” she said, so she pushed on. It was worth it — she took gold and that catapulted her up 40 spots on the US standings.

That sealed the deal with Princeton.

Fang applied to study biology and chemical engineering at Princeton.

As a member of Team Canada, Fang has traveled the world competing at World Cups and other international competitions. In fact, at the Pan American Championships in June 2022, she was a member of the Senior Foil Team that took gold, besting Team USA which included Lee Kiefer.

Qualifying for the 2024 Paris Olympics is also on Fang’s to-do list. “They’re really close, but my eyes are on the Senior World Championships this year.”

Congratulations Sabrina, Coach Slava and her family.
