Olympians Celebrated the New Year at the TMFC Ziad and Eli Saber Cup

Port Chester, NY (Jan 1, 2024) — The youngest fencers to those vying for the Paris 2024 Olympics turned out for the Ziad and Eli Saber Cup at Tim Morehouse Fencing Club.

The top prize of the day — the gold medal for Senior Mixed Saber — was won by US Olympian Eli Dershwitz, the current world champion. He edged out the silver medalist Ziad Elsissy, an Olympian representing Egypt, by just one point. Elsissy is ranked fourth in the world.

And it didn’t stop there. The talent participating in the Mixed Open resulted in ratings being awarded to Dershwitz (A24) and Babacar Keita and Samuel Sugiura, both from Tim Morehouse and both earning their C24 ratings.

Ratings were also earned in Division III Men’s and Women’s events by:

Ryan Waxler - D24

Isaac Yook - E 24

Charlotte Choi - E24.

At the youngest levels, many fencers reached personal milestones including Jack Morehouse, who won his first medal. Varvara Mankova took her first gold, in Senior Women’s Saber. And Charlotte Choi won two golds - Y-12 Women’s Saber and Division III Cadet Women’s Saber.
