Tim Morehouse Fencers Achieve Silver Medal and More at the Eislingen Cadet International

Eislingen, Germany (November 2019) - Three fencers from Tim Morehouse Fencing Club competed in the Eislingen Cadet International, the 3rd Cadet International tournament of the season. Our fencers participated in Individual and Team Cadet Saber events. They were accompanied by TMFC Coach Michael Kim throughout the competition.

Josephine Chang and Madison Four-Garcia competed in Individual Cadet Women’s Saber. Madison finished 5-0 and Josephine 3-2 in the pools. Josephine placed in 96th, and Madison fenced into the top-32, achieving an 18th place finish out of 189 fencers.

Peter Hammer fenced in Individual Cadet Men’s Saber, where he came in 158th place out of 204 fencers.

Additionally, Madison Four-Garcia fenced with Team USA in the Team Cadet Saber event and brought home a Silver Medal!

Secaucus, NJ (November/December 2019) - Students from Tim Morehouse Fencing Club competed in the Cobra Challenge SYC/RCC/Y8, a three-day tournament hosted by Cobra Fencing Club at the The Meadowlands Exposition Center. TMFC fencers brought home an astonishing 23 medals at this tournament, 6 of which were Gold Medals. To help make this all happen, we had 10 saber coaches accompany our fencers at the tournament.

The six Gold Medals were achieved by Richard Lin in Cadet Men's Foil, Aria Bevacqua in Youth-12 Women's Saber, Timothy Chang in Youth-8 Men's Saber, Richard Li in Youth-12 Men's Foil, Adele Bois in Youth-14 Women's Saber, and Charlotte Young in Youth-10 Women's Saber.

In Y-12 Men’s Saber, TMFC yielded it’s biggest squad to date, with 20 fencers competing. We had three fencers in the top-8, six total in the top-16 and 10 total students earned national points amongst a very strong field.

Shaun Kim won a Silver Medal in this competition, and Gabriel McCarthy and Robert Wang won Top-8 Medals.

This was a memorable tournament for TMFC Y-8 fencers as well! Our Y-8 fencers brought home three medals in Y-8 Men’s Saber, and two medals in Y-8 Women’s Saber. Timothy Chang won a Gold Medal in Youth-8 Men's Saber, Pau De Planell-Lotti won a Bronze Medal, and Miles Chambers won a Top-8 Medal. Additionally, Julia Harris won a Silver Medal in Youth-8 Women's Saber, and Zuri Alfred won a Top-8 Medal.

Catherine Flanagan Brings Home a Bronze Medal Fencing with Team USA at the European Cadet Circuit

Moedling, Austria (November, 2019) - Tim Morehouse Fencer Catherine Flanagan participated in the European Cadet Circuit, a World Cup tournament featuring Cadet competitions. She fenced in the individual and team events for Cadet Women’s Foil.

Catherine fenced with Team USA in Cadet Team Women’s Foil, bringing home a Bronze Medal in this category. She also fenced in Individual Cadet Women’s Foil, where she finished in 60th place out of 209 participants.

Deerfield, IL (November, 2019) - Students of Tim Morehouse Fencing Club competed in the Windy City SYC/RCC, a three-day tournament at the Berto Center. Our fencers participated in 8 competitions, achieving great results on the fencing strip. They were accompanied by Coach Michael Kim throughout the events.

Tim Morehouse fencers achieved 10 medal-wins throughout the tournament. Notably, Shaun Kim won a Gold Medal in Youth-12 Men's Saber, and Richard Li won a Silver Medal in Youth-12 Men's Foil.

Our fencers brought home four Bronze Medals as well. Bronze Medal wins were achieved by Enzo Bera in Youth-12 Men's Saber, Amaya Javeri in Youth-14 Women's Saber, Richard Li in Youth-14 Men's Foil, and Charlotte Young in Youth-10 Women's Saber. Charlotte also won a Top-8 Medal in Youth-12 Women's Saber.

Additionally, Aria Bevacqua won three medals at this tournament! She brought home Top-8 Medals in Youth-12 Women's Saber, Cadet Women's Saber, and Youth-14 Women's Saber.

Nowell Gibson Achieves a Top-32 Finish at the Challenge Mondial in Grenoble, France

Grenoble, France (November, 2019) - TMFC Fencer Nowell Gibson competed in the Challenge Mondial, an International Cadet tournament. The competition took place at Club Escrime Parmentier, where Nowell participated in both the individual and team events in Cadet Men’s Epee.

In Cadet individual Men’s Epee, Nowell reached a Top-32 result, brining home a 26th place finish.

In Cadet Team Men’s Epee, Nowell fenced with Team USA. He was joined by teammates Nicholas Candela and Ryan Lee. They achieved an impressive Top-16 result, coming in 10th place.

TMFC Fencers Compete in the Men’s Saber World Cup in Cairo, Egypt

Cairo, Egypt (November, 2019) - Olympic qualification for Tokyo 2020 resumed this weekend and three Olympic hopeful fencers from Tim Morehouse Fencing Club competed in the Men’s Sabre World Cup - Ziad Elsissy, Fito Western, and Jonah Shainberg.

The three TMFC fencers each represented their home countries of Egypt, Puerto Rico, USA and Team USA respectively.

Ziad Elsissy, who also coaches at TMFC, had the best result from the club as he achieved a Top-32 finish. Along the way, he defeated the #1 seeded fencer in the tournament in the round of 64 before falling 14-15 to make the round of 16.

Jonah and Fito lost close matches on the first day. All of them are competing to try to make the Tokyo 2020 Olympic team and we wish them the best of luck in the upcoming competitions!
