Olympian Eli Dershwitz Pays His First Visits to TMFC

New York, NY (Nov. 19 - 21) — Train with an Olympian.

It’s one of the tenets at Tim Morehouse Fencing Club and this weekend, two-time Olympian Eli Dershwitz made his inaugural visits to all three Tim Morehouse locations — Port Chester, Chelsea Piers and Manhattan — to train with Tim and also to lead the youth fencing classes.

“As a youth fencer, I saw Tim as one of the great American fencers,” Dershwitz explained. “I watched him get silver in 2008. I fenced against him when I was younger as well. After the Tokyo Olympics, I wanted to branch out and do more than just be a competitive athlete.”

Working with the Tim Morehouse Fencing Club “just seemed like a good match.” He added, “There’s a repertoire of young fencers who really want to get better within the sport. I have a lot of knowledge that I can pass to the next generation of US Fencers.”

Dershwitz will travel monthly to the New York area from Boston where he works as an assistant coach for Harvard fencing. “I will train with members of the national team that live in New York City but I’ll also be helping with classes, clinic and camps,” at TMFC.

Dershwitz will be leading the club’s Sixth Annual Winter Saber Camp, Dec. 26 through 30. He will be joined by Tokyo Olympian Ziad Elsissy, Hungarian National Team Member Kata Varhelyi along with Olympic Silver Medalist and TMFC Founder Tim Morehouse and the rest of the TMFC coaching staff. In addition, there will be special surprise guests from around the country joining in.

The camp is appropriate for both youth and older students as they will be grouped differently, depending on the activities. The camp will include footwork, tactical and strategic drills as well as bouting and more.
