Columbus, OH (Dec 10, 2021) — After a slow start and a number of close calls, Shaun Kim prevailed.
The saber fencer won bronze in Cadet Men’s Saber at the December North American Cup.
Kim left pools in 74th place having won three of his five bouts. Once he hit the direct elimination rounds, he came into his own, winning 15-5, 15-8, 15-14, and 15-9 before his final bout with Hananiah So from Manhattan Fencing Center, which was tight at 15-13.
In addition to his bronze medal, he earned his B-21 rating.
Gabriel McCarthy also had his highest NAC finish in Cadet Men’s Saber, making the top 16. In Cadet Men’s Foil, Nickolas Rusadze cracked the top-32, coming in 19th.

The North American Cup is taking place at the Greater Columbus Convention Center in Columbus, OH December 9 through 12. Events include Division I, Junior and Cadet events for women and men in saber, épée and foil.
