Columbus, OH (Dec 9-12, 2021) — Sabrina Fang’s hard work paid off.
The foil fencer competed in three events at The North American Cup (NAC) and came up with three medals — a gold in Junior Women’s foil, silver in Cadet Women’s foil and fifth place in Division I Women’s Foil — setting a new record at for the most wins at one NAC for the Tim Morehouse Fencing Club.
This young fencer trains with coach Slava Grigoriev at Tim Morehouse Fencing Club Port Chester and was pleasantly surprised with her performance at the NAC.
“The goal was to do best at Cadet because I’ve made the top-8 two or three times,” she explained. “Then I got in to the finals on the first day,” winning silver.
On day three of competition, Fang competed with the Junior Women. “In previous NAC Junior events, I had never made the top-16. It was frustrating when the DE tableau came out and I had to fence the top seed,” she explained. However, “I had a breakthrough,” and won gold.
Fang admitted she had no expectations for her third day of competition, Division I. “I tried my best and that went well too,” she said, earning a fifth place medal. “I feel like my hard work finally paid off.”
Club founder Tim Morehouse said “It’s safe to say Sabrina had one of the best weekends of anyone across all weapons at the North American Cup. This is one of the top performances in TMFC club history.”
While the hard work paid off, there is no break for this young fencer.
“I’m not taking a break because I’m going through recruitment,” for colleges, she explained, plus, “I’m keeping up the intensity because of the World Cup in 2022.”
In addition to the World Cup, Fang will be back in competition in less than a month at the January NAC in San Jose, CA January 7-10, 2022.
