Rocky Point, NY (April 30 - May 3, 2021) — Tim Morehouse fencers went out for hardware and did not disappoint.
The four-day competition on Long Island proved to be another one for the books, with TMFC earning medals in both saber and foil events.
The foilists were in command on Friday, with the Y-14 women opening with gold for Alina Zhang and bronze for Sophia Wong, who also earned her D21 rating.
Saberists led the day Saturday, with the Y-14 men opening. Matthew Fields earned a fifth-place medal and his E21 rating. Fellow fencers Gabriel McCarthy (12), Robert Wang (13), and Emilio Gonzalez (14) made the top 16.
Also in saber, Y-12 women were dominated by Catelyn So, who won gold. Brynnley McKee medaled in sixth place.
In Y-12 women’s foil, Iris Yang brought home a sixth-place medal.
The competition was stiff for the foilists in the Y-10 men’s event with two TMFC fencers making the top 16 — Ethan Chen (11) and Michael Grigoriev (15).
Sunday was saber-day again with Y12 men’s fencer Emilio Gonzalez taking gold and Enzo Bera joining him on the podium with a sixth-place finish. Myles Duckett (12) made the top 16.
Y-10 women’s saber fencer Catalina Berrios earned a bronze.
TMFC fencers wrapped up the weekend on Monday with a second medal for Iris Yang, who earned silver in Y-10 women’s foil.
Aram Clark earned gold in Y-10 men’s saber and was joined on the medal stand by Benjamin Gurevich with a silver, Alexander Fadel with bronze, and Aster Oh, winning fifth place.
Y-14 foilist Nickolas Rusadze ended the competition with a seventh-place medal.
