San Jose, Costa Rica (May 2, 2021)Fatima Largaespada gave it her all fencing saber and representing Nicaragua at the Pan American Olympic Zonals, but sadly, came up short.

Coach Fati, as she’s known at Tim Morehouse Fencing Club, fought hard during the pool round, winning three of her six matches and narrowly missing a fourth win.

With TMFC Coach Melvin Rodriguez coaching her on the strip, she advanced to the direct elimination round, but lost to Karina Trois from Brazil, 15 -9. Maria Belen Perez Maurice from Argentina ultimately prevailed to take the Pan American Olympic berth.

Fati is an alumnus of Temple University, where she fenced foil for the famed Dr. Nikki Franke. After graduating in 2016, she served as the head coach for the women’s fencing program at Wagner College for two years.

Prior to college, Fati was a member of the Mexican Junior National Team, earned a bronze medal at the Cadet Pan-American Championships and competed at the Junior World Championships in 2011 and 2012.

Congratulations on your well-fought battles and a great season.
