Curitiba, Brazil (Nov 4-6, 2022) — Tim Morehouse Fencers Augusto Pinto and Marcus Pinto brought home the fencing hardware.
Between the two of them, the father-son saber fencing duo earned a gold, a silver and a bronze at the Paranaense Junior and Veteran Championship in Curitiba, Brazil. This is considered the national championships for Brazil.
Marcus Pinto, 12, opened his competition with a series of winning pool and direct elimination bouts to become the Youth-13 National Champion of Brazil. On his second day of competition, he earned a silver in the Youth-15 category, quite an accomplishment for fencing up into an older age category.
Augusto Pinto, competing in the Veteran-40 saber competition, fought hard in his first international competition to win a bronze medal.
Though Brazilian nationals, the family resides in Greenwich, where Marcus is in the seventh grade at Eastern Middle School.
Both Pintos train at Tim Morehouse Fencing Club in Port Chester, NY. Marcus trains with Olympians Tim Morehouse and Ziad Elsissy (Egy) and Augusto trains with coaches Fito Western and Ahmed Hamdy .
