Greenwich Saber Fencer Shaun Kim is on a National Medal Roll

Richmond, VA (March 4-7, 2022) — Shaun Kim is working on a medal streak.

After winning a seventh-place medal and an A22 rating in the Junior Men’s Saber event at the Junior Olympics in Salt Lake City in February, Shaun Kim bettered himself by taking gold this weekend at the March North American Cup (NAC) in Richmond, VA.

Competing in the Youth-14 event, Kim came into the competition seeded first. He faced six fencers in his preliminary pool bouts, winning against all of them, but lost the first position by one point. In his direct elimination bouts, he won 15-4, 15-10, 15-8, 15-10, 15-13, before taking the gold medal in a decisive 15-10 win.

This Greenwich native is a student at The Hackley School and trains at the Tim Morehouse Fencing Club (TMFC) in both Manhattan and Port Chester, NY with former Olympian Tim Morehouse and Coach Hamdy . This gold medal helped propel Kim into first place in the national standings.
