Morehouse Vet Fencers Start The First Free Fencing Program in the NYC Public Schools

Bronx, NY — Two Veteran Fencers from Tim Morehouse Fencing Club have started the first free fencing program in the New York City Schools for elementary-aged students.

Amy Turchiaro, the school psychologist for PS 340 in the Kingsbridge section of the Bronx, worked with fellow vet fencer Huey Tan, senior vice-president at Signature Bank, to secure a $10,000 grant the bank to start a saber fencing program for third, fourth and fifth grade students.

More than 200 students signed up for a mere 20 spots in the program that is coached by Luka Oboladze and Peter Kunz.

Because of its initial success, Turchiaro said she is looking for ways to secure additional grants to expand the program for the next school year.
