Tim Morehouse Fencing Had Late Season Successes at The Fairfax Challenge SYC/RJCC

Fredericksburg, VA (May 13-15, 2022) — Success late in the season could be considered sweeter.

After months of training and competing, saber and foil fencers from Tim Morehouse Fencing Club, faced with the end of their seasons on the horizon, brought on top performances.

There were two gold medals at the Fairfax Challenge — one for Y-10 Women’s Saber fencer Veronika Gonzales and the other for Y-10 Women’s Foil fencer Grace Feng. Feng was joined on the medal stand by Amabel Wang in fifth place and Yunong Lin in eighth place. Feng also medaled in Y-12 Women’s Foil, earning eighth place along with her D22 rating.

A silver medal was earned by John JD Valetta in Y-8 Men’s Saber. That event served as the very first competition for Harrison Wang where he won his first bout!

Also relatively new to competing were Y-8 Women’s Saber fencers Annika von Marie Kaibling and Grace Chang, who was competing for the first time ever. Both medaled — Kaibling in third place and Chang in fifth place.

Bronze medals were also earned by Kai Toomre in Y-10 Men’s Foil and Zihou Dai in Y-10 Men’s Saber. Miles Chambers and Timothy Chang joined Dai on the the medal stand in fifth and seventh places respectively.

Enzo Bera had a breakthrough finish in Cadet Men’s Saber, earning fifth place. Y-14 Men’s Saber fencer Gabriel Clark earned a sixth place medal along with his E22 rating. Ethan Kim earned sixth place in Y-12 Men’s Saber. And Jackson Wong earned eighth place in Y-12 Men’s Foil.

While just missing the medal stand in both Cadet and Y-14 Women’s Saber, coming in 10th and 11th, respectively, Coco Guven deserves a call out on these, her best ever finishes.

Congratulations fencers, coaches and parents.
