Rocky Point, NY (May 14-15, 2022) — Tim Morehouse Fencing Club’s Alina Zhang is a silver medalist.
Zhang fought her way through a very competitive field of 27 fencers to earn a silver medal in Division IA Women’s Foil at the Jeff Wolfe Long Island Challenge ROC in Rocky Point, NY.
Coming out of pools in 14th place, Zhang fought her way to the top in her direct elimination rounds, 15-4, 15-11, 15-6, 15-9, to barely lose in the gold medal bout, 13-15.
Also competing in that event was teammate Harini Thiruvengadam, who finished in 22nd place. Competing again in Division II Women’s Foil, Thiruvengadam finished 15th out a field of 19.
In Division IA Men’s Foil, Jonah Lee finished tied in 46th place.
On the saber front, Matthew Fields finished 17th in Division IA Men’s Saber.
Zhang is a native of Scarsdale, NY and attends Scarsdale High School school. She trains at Tim Morehouse Fencing Club in Port Chester with Coach Slava Grigoriev.
