Minneapolis, MN (July 10, 2022) — It was a three-plus-one day, with three medals earned in foil and one in saber.
Ella Calise won her second medal of the tournament, taking bronze in Y-12 Women’s Foil. Teammate Iris Yang joined her on the medal stand in 8th place.
Kai Toomre also won bronze, in Y-10 Men’s Saber. All of the foil fencers train with Coach Slava Grigoriev at Tim Morehouse Fencing Club in Port Chester.
On the saber side, Veronika Gonzalez took bronze on Y-10 Women’s Saber.

The 2022 USA Fencing National Championships and July Challenge are taking place at the Minneapolis Convention Center in Minnesota from July 2–11, 2022. More than 4,500 competitors from 45 states and 12 foreign countries are competing in more than 100 events over 10 days. Fencers range from age seven to 84, competing in events that start as Y-10 and run to Veteran-80 with all imaginable categories of age, gender, and weapon in between.
