New York, NY — We are celebrating the fifth anniversary of Tim Morehouse Fencing Club.
We’ve learned so much in the past five years — about fencers, about coaches, about families, and about ourselves — that we believe is helping us make a positive contribution to the fencing community in the US and beyond. We are “doing the work” on numerous fronts, but know we still have room for improvement.
I believe we are on a path to elevating this sport in many tangible ways. Here’s what we have accomplished so far:
We employ the most (or close to) full-time and part-time coaches in the country.
Our staff is diverse — 50 percent are people of color on both our coaching staff and administrative staff.
We’ve hired as many female coaches as any club in the country in the past five years. (We know there is a lot of room for improvement.)
We have more new students fencing and competing than any other club in the country.
Our marketing efforts have resulted in more fencing students for not just our own club but all the clubs in the tri-state area.
We have put more than $1 million (over five years) into the pockets of tournament organizers and USA Fencing with our very active and competitive membership base.
We run three full-time facilities across multiple states.
We provide significant financial support and flexible working conditions for athletes who are training and making Olympic teams.
We are always open to sharing best practices/lessons learned with other club owners and people who have asked.
I am extremely grateful to the coaches, staff, and families who have believed in what we are doing and helped us build. We have learned a lot of hard lessons along the way but are growing stronger from them. We take our motto of “Get Better Every Day” to heart on all levels.
