Summer Nationals, Day One: Division I Women's Foil, Junior Men's Saber

Minneapolis, MN (July 2, 2022) — USA Fencing Summer Nationals is underway and Tim Morehouse Fencing Club started off strong.

Division I Women’s Foil kicked off TMFC action with fencers Sabrina Fang and Alina Zhang coming out of pools in the middle of the pack that contained NCAA champs and Olympians. Fang ultimately made the top 64 (61T) with Zhang coming in 78th.

Action in Junior Men’s Saber came fast with the fencers coming out of pools strong — Shaun Kim went six for six, Robert Wang and Seth Edelman went four for six and Matthew Kim and Matthew Fields went three for six. The direct eliminations were more challenging.

Ultimately, Wang made the top 32 (26), Gabriel McCarthy made the top 64 (63) and Shaun Kim just missed the cut at 66.

The 2022 USA Fencing National Championships and July Challenge are taking place at the Minneapolis Convention Center in Minnesota from July 2–11, 2022. More than 4,500 competitors from 45 states and 12 foreign countries are competing in more than 100 events over 10 days. Fencers range from age seven to 84, competing in events that start as Y-10 and run to Veteran-80 with all imaginable categories of age, gender, and weapon in between.
