Brockport, NY (March 10-12, 2023) — Watch out for the fencing brothers Lee.
At the Ben Gutenberg Memorial SYC/RCC, the duo dominated the Y-14 Men’s Foil event, with Jonah Lee earning gold and Brendan Lee earning silver.
Coming out of pools, Brendan was in third place while older brother Jonah was in fifth place. Both fencers moved relatively easily through Direct Elimination bouts until they met in the final event. The elder Lee, Jonah, emerged triumphantly 15-13 over Brendan.
Jonah Lee is in his final year in the Y-14 category and is currently ranked 19th in the country. He is a ninth grader at the Fairfield Ludlowe High School in Fairfield, CT. When he’s not fencing he enjoys playing piano and cello, doing volunteer work and watching sports (usually rooting for Philadelphia teams).
Brendan Lee is just 13 years old. He’s in eighth grade at the Roger Ludlowe Middle School in Fairfield. He enjoys playing piano and cooking.
Both brothers train at Tim Morehouse Fencing Club in Port Chester, NY. They train with both Head Foil Coach Slava Grigoriev and Eddie Grigoriev.
Jonah Lee is enjoying a string of successes. At the North American Cup earlier this month, he earned a silver medal in Y-14 Men’s Foil and his B23 rating. Brendan fenced into a respectable 35th place out of 257 fencers.
Congratulations to both fencers, their family and their coaches.
