The Young Women Foil Fencers Brought it Home at the Morris Cup RYC

Metuchen, NJ (March 18-19, 2023) — Let’s hear it for the girls. And the boys. And the épéeists.

The young women foil fencers showed up for medals at the Morris Cup, particularly the Li sisters who had three medals between the two of them.

Tim Morehouse fencers owned the Y-12 Women’s Foil event with Savannah Li taking gold, Amabel Wang and Anastasia Roberts owning the bronze medals and Sophie Huang taking eighth.

Eleanor Li won silver in Cadet Women’s Foil. She came back in Y-14 Women’s Foil to take fifth place.

Amabel Wang showed up for her second tournament medal — gold — in Y-10 Women’s Foil. Teammate Mila Paek earned fifth place. Iris Yang won bronze in Junior Women’s Foil.

Michael Grigoriev earned silver in Y-12 Men’s Foil. William Gerrish earned bronze in Y-14 Men’s Foil and his D23 rating. Finally, Leon Shapiro took sixth place in Cadet Men’s Foil and earned his E23 rating.

Epée fencers Ray Cao and Carla Lenschow waded into the competition fray, representing Tim Morehouse’s new and growing program out of its Stamford, CT location.

Over 100 fencers from the Tim Morehouse Fencing Club competed in this tournament. All three weapons were represented. This is a new record for the club, in its sixth year.
