Scarsdale's Aaron Waxler Wins Two National Fencing Medals

Seth Waxler and his dad, Vet Fencer Aaron Waxler

Louisville, KY (Jan. 6-9, 2023) — After an almost 25-year break, Scarsdale’s Aaron Waxler is back winning fencing medals.

The saber fencer, a native of Scarsdale, competed this weekend at the North American Cup in Louisville, KY. He walked away with two medals — seventh in the Open Veteran Men’s Saber event and eighth in the Vet-40 Men’s Saber event. He also earned a C23 rating. His debut as a veteran fencer is the winningest debut of any fencer in the history of the Tim Morehouse Fencing Club.

Waxler, 46, is a patent attorney who last fenced while he was an undergrad at Brandeis University. He started fencing again because his three sons are all fencers.

The eldest, Seth, 16, is a nationally ranked Cadet fencer who also competed in Louisville. He is a junior at Edgemont High School.  Ryan, 13, is in eighth grade at Edgemont Middle School. And Alex, 11, is in sixth grade at Seely Place Elementary School.

All four Waxler men train at Tim Morehouse Fencing Club in Westchester. In fact, Aaron encouraged the club to start "Wine and Cheese" Fridays for adult fencers to work out while their kids are fencing. Coach Carlos Fernandez Ugalde, the former National Coach of Spain, leads the class.

Congratulations Aaron.
